History of Internet:
The Internet, was known as ARPANET, & was brought online in 1969 under a contract let by the renamed Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA). The internet developed from software called the ARPANET which the U.S military had developed.

Internet & its use:
The Internet is a global system of interconnected computer networks that use the standard Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) to serve billions of users worldwide.
It is because of Internet you are able to read this electronics blog.Internet has joined people world wide. Internet is collection of thousands of networks. These networks when combined we call it Internet. We can find any data on search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. Here are some uses of Internet.
1. On Internet we are able to access free information online for e.g free tutorials, music, videos downloads.
2. We can access latest news happenings and weather reports on the internet.
3. Many useful services are now provided on the internet such as online banking, purchasing match tickets for your favorite movies, online railway & airline schedules, online results, getting a job and study related guidance & material.
4. Another big advantage of internet is online advertising of businesses on websites. With the help of internet we can now communicate with the persons in other countries through Email service and can take business orders. Internet has helped people grow in there businesses. Businessman can sell their products online on various online shopping malls like eBay and make revenue.
5. We can also earn through internet by joining miscellaneous advertising programs and displaying their ads.
6. People can join social networking websites like facebook & orkut so as to keep in touch with their near ones.
We can say that Internet has made the world smaller and simpler.
Basic Internet Terms:
Client: A client is an application or system that accesses a remote service on another computer system, known as a server, by help of a network.
Server: A server serves information to computers that connect to it. When users connect to a server, they can access programs, files, and other information from the server.
Web Browser: A type of software that retrieves and presents information resources on the internet. The information resource can be text, image, sound, video, or other type of content.
Web: It is one of the services communicated via the Internet. It is a collection of interconnected documents and other resources, linked by hyperlinks and URLs.
E-mail (electronic mail): It is the exchange of computer-stored messages by telecommunication.
FTP: File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to copy a file from one host to another over a TCP/IP-based network. To download, upload or modify any content on any website we require an ftp program.
Telnet: An Internet tool that allows users to connect to a remote computer
Intranet: It is a private computer network. It is used to share any part of an organization's information or network operating system within that organization securely.
